He and She's Immunity Cocktail
We’ve found ourselves looking for ways to boost our immune system this summer. He and She have been sleeping more, exercising a ton, eating our fruits and veggies, and washing our hands constantly. But by the time happy hour rolls around, what to drink?
In ancient times the elderflower was believed to be an antiseptic and antiviral with anti-inflammatory benefits. It is said to have healing powers for those with colds, the flu, bronchitis and swollen sinuses. So we thought, how about St. Germain for a start?
Vodka, yes vodka, supposedly can help lower cholesterol, increase blood-flow and improve circulation which prevents strokes, blood clots and heart disease. It is a disinfectant and antiseptic (but not potent enough to be a hand sanitizer!). We find it helps relieve tensions too.
Sparkling wine, much like red and white wine, is thought to improve heart health because of antioxidants which can reduce bad cholesterol, avoid blood clots and prevent blood vessel damage.
Pomegranates are nutrient-rich and provide anti-bacterial and anti-fungal benefits as well as anti-inflammatory properties. And the seeds look just great in a cocktail.
So we put our heads together and came up with our Immunity Cocktail. But please keep in mind we are sommeliers, not doctors. It should help to keep you immune from bad drinks, but it won’t protect you from any sickness floating around.
Immunity Cocktail
1 part vodka
4 parts dry sparkling wine
pomegranate seeds
Add St. Germain and vodka to a cocktail shaker with ice. Give it a good long shake to chill.
Strain into chilled champagne flutes.
Top with champagne and garnish with pomegranate seeds.
Turn off the news, gaze out your window or into your glass, and enjoy.
