Tasting of the Day
Who doesn't love a real-life espionage story while sipping wine?
Spy Valley Sauvignon Blanc
Classic Marlborough flavors (think Kim Crawford). Winery got its name because it is located near the Waihopai Station, a controversial satellite communications monitoring facility allegedly used by the NSA to intercept communications from that end of the earth. $21
Broadbent Vinho Verde Rose
Refreshing summer porch sipper with Vinho Verde's trademark fizz which comes from carbon dioxide release during malolactic fermentation. $12
La Closerie des Lys Pinot Noir
This fruity, medium-bodied Pinot Noir with a nose of black cherry and spice comes from the Languedoc region of southern France. It is best served slightly chilled and we think it would make a great base for a summer sangria. $20
Lang & Reed Cabernet Franc
This 100% Cabernet Franc comes from the northern coast of California. The wine is tasty and complex with notes of spice and dark berry, but when enjoying a glass of wine on its own, we prefer Cab Franc as part of a blend. It would have been more popular with our group if paired with a fatty meat such as lamb. $30
