Bourbon Fun Facts

Did you know that a spirit can only be called bourbon if:

  • The mash, mixture of grains, contains at least 51% corn
  • It does not have any additives
  • It is distilled at 160 proof or less
  • It is put into new charred oak barrels at 125 proof or less
  • It is produced in the United States (not just in Kentucky)
  • And, to be called "straight bourbon" the distillate must be aged a minimum of two years in oak barrels (any variety)
